First week of my keto journey

Health problems made me change my diet by cutting out carbohydrates. As a teenager, I've been on a raw food diet and haven't eaten sweets. I'm used to making sacrifices while looking at my plate. Or I thought I was.

After three days of "successfully" being on a ketogenic diet, I found that I wasn't even close to keto. Not only do I have to look at the number of carbs, but also the number of proteins. Whaaaat?!? :)

The beginning of my keto journey wasn't even keto. In the first three days, I ate 1500 grams of cottage cheese with 100 % cacao powder or natural whey powder with a taste of strawberries and white chocolate. How should I know that milk, yogurt, and cheese are keto, and cottage cheese isn't? The initial shock came with the revelation that I don't need to be 100 % keto. It's even better to have cheat days. At least I have that.

I decided I am going forward with my initial diet of cutting out carbs for the next month or two, and then I'll also start looking at the number of proteins. The transition will be easier in that way.

On the fifth day of the diet, Polar watch gave me an alert about being undertrained. How is that possible, as I am tired? Oh yeah, another side effect of my body missing carbs. At nine p.m. I went for a ten-kilometer run. My heart rate was low, and so was my speed.

I went for an easy bike ride the next day. Last week I could ride the same route at least 3 km/h faster. But I didn't eat any food during the ride, and my sugar didn't drop, even though it was +30 celsius. Is that the beginning of my body using fat for energy?

Later that day, I almost fought with my boyfriend. He didn't do anything wrong. I was just moody. I looked at my period calendar - I shouldn't be sulky for another two weeks. That is another fun side effect of detoxing from carbs.

Today I'm writing this post. I hope it will help me get over the detoxing period, keep me motivated, grow a circle of friends going through the same and help you if you're on the same path. Or at least make you laugh at my misery.

P.S.: I've been on intermittent fasting for eight months now. Maybe I have an advantage against carbs that want to stay in my life.

Good luck and btw, too much milk is not keto, look Cronometer for carbs in milk.

Tnx! Luckily I mostly mixed cacao with yogurt, not milk. Good to know. 😁
