Join me as I share my experience running the night race Nočna 10ka for the second time, representing the sponsor Conditus in their stylish running shirt. I'll take you through the contrasts between the two races, the challenging weather conditions, and how my training regimen has improved my performance. And of course, we can't forget the sweet reward waiting for us at the finish line - Conditus' famous Blejska kremšnita!
I recently ran in the Nočna 10ka for the second time, having previously participated on June 25th, 2022, and then again just yesterday, on May 13th, 2023. The two runs were very different experiences.

In 2022, the weather was scorching hot, and I recorded an average heart rate of 170 bpm and an average pace of 4:50 min/km, with a maximum pace of 3:22 min/km. I spent 80 % of my time in heart rate zone 4 and 11% of my time in heart rate zone 5. Despite the challenging conditions, I managed to complete the 10.2 km course in 0:49:31, wearing the running shirt of a pastry company Conditus.

This year, the weather was much milder, with a perfect temperature of 10°C. I felt chilly while waiting for the start, but it was ideal for running. My heart rate was even higher during the race, averaging 176 bpm, with an average pace of 4:43 min/km and a maximum pace of 2:46 min/km at the finish line. I spent only 14 % of my time in heart rate zone 4 and 84 % of my time in heart rate zone 5, a significant improvement from the previous year. This time, I finished the same 10.2 km course at 0:47:42. Interestingly, despite the differences in weather conditions and performance, my average cadence was the same on both runs, at 86 steps per minute.
In addition to the improved weather conditions, I attribute my better performance to more rigorous training this year. I trained for a half marathon last winter and a full marathon this winter, so I was better prepared for the race. I am also grateful to my friends who came to cheer me on during the race. Their support gave me an extra boost to push through the challenging moments and strive for my best time.
And, of course, I enjoyed a delicious kremšnita pastry from Conditus after finishing the race, just like every other participant.
